General

Refresh interval

How often Vale pulls usage from connected providers:

• Free — Manual, 30 minutes, or 1 hour.
• Power — Also 1, 5, and 10 minutes.

You can always refresh from the dashboard toolbar. If a Power-only interval is saved and you drop to Free, Vale falls back to a Free cadence. Scheduled refreshes fetch every connection at once, skip a cycle that would overlap the previous one, and pause while you are offline — the dashboard keeps the last known usage on each card until the network is back.

App behavior

• Launch on startup — Power. Start Vale when you sign in to your computer.
• Minimize to system tray — Free. Keep running in the tray when the window is closed.

Appearance

• Free themes — System, Light, Dark.
• Power — Amoled theme and accent color.
• Titlebar style — Free. Windows or Mac style, auto-detected from your platform and switchable on any plan.
• Provider card glow — Power. Ambient glow on provider cards.

Providers

Manage connected instances, add a provider, test credentials, and enable or disable accounts. Connection methods (import, sign-in, extension, manual, OAuth) are covered under Providers.

• Add Provider — opens the provider picker. While you scroll a long list the button floats, then docks at the bottom-right of the list. The dashboard toolbar has the same button.
• Import from this device — when Vale detects a signed-in app or CLI on this machine (Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor, Zed, ZCode, Kimi Work, Kimi Code, GitHub CLI, Antigravity, Devin Desktop), a dropdown next to Add Provider imports it in one click. Apps you already imported are hidden from the menu.
• Zed organizations — if your Zed account belongs to several organizations, Vale asks which one to monitor when you connect through the extension or edit credentials.
• Free limit — enabling or saving a sixth active account explains the limit in plain words and shows the upgrade dialog in place, without leaving the page. Re-saving an existing connection does not count as a new one.

History

• Keep raw history for (days) — Free up to 30 days; Power can keep longer retention (up to 365 days in Settings).
• Prune Old History — Manually delete entries older than the retention period.
• Weekly email digest — Power. Opt in to a weekly usage summary emailed to your signed-in address when Vale is open. Raw history stays on this device.

How much of each limit you used per day, week, month, or year is on the Usage page in the sidebar — not under Settings.

Notifications

• Enable notifications — Free. Desktop alerts for low or used-up limits, expired sign-ins, and connection issues (defaults: 20% remaining quota, $10 credit floor).
• Notify on limit reset — Power. Alert when a quota window actually refills; stale reset timers no longer trigger an alert.
• Quota threshold — Power. Alert when a quota or request allowance falls to this percentage remaining or below.
• Credit floor — Power. Alert when a dollar balance falls to this amount or below. Claude extra usage counts as spend here.

Alerts name the account, escalate once a limit hits zero, and fire once per outage rather than on every failed refresh. When the network drops, Vale sends a single offline alert instead of one per connection.

Account & Billing

Account holds email, display name, and delete-account. Sign-in uses Supabase Auth so provider connections can sync per account. Usage history stays in local SQLite and is not uploaded with that sync.
